Living Art, a 23 minute film features the story of Adat Shalom member, Mara Clawson, a VSA/Kennedy Center Emerging Young Artists with Disabilities award winner, whose artwork has been shown all over the country.
Mara has discovered through her use of oil pastels and digital painting how to convey her experience of the world through powerful and beautiful images.
Just one example — because her body cannot make tears, she paints enormous eyes fringed with lashes with tears streaming down in sadness and sometimes in joy. Through art, Mara creates visual records of the emotions she feels.
Following the film, producer David Rochkind and Mara Clawson will answer questions during the discussion session. This event will be ASL interpreted.
For a preview, check out her website: https://maraclawson.com/. David Rochkind has also produced many ground-breaking videos to bring about social change ‘from the ground up’. To learn more, please see https:.//ground.media/.
This event, hosted by Adat Shalom’s Inclusion Advisory Committee (IAC) is free and open to non-members. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
We thank Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation for opening this event to the WSJD community.
